Understanding Deworming

Kids are happy

Many assume that eating sweets or junk food causes worms, but various types of worms, like roundworms, tapeworms, flukes, enterobius, and strongyloides, actually come from eggs spread everywhere, such as places we touch or where children play. When we don’t wash our hands properly and eat, these eggs enter our bodies. Some worms can also enter through the skin from contact with contaminated surfaces.

The main symptom of worms is NOT STOMACH PAIN. Stomach pain is mostly due to constipation or junk food. Often, you might not even know you have worms. In some cases, worms come near the anus at night to lay eggs, causing itching.

A common myth is that if kids don’t eat properly, it’s due to worms. Some worms can cause bleeding during bowel movements, or create vitamin or mineral deficiencies, or anemia. When you see the right signs, doctors might prescribe treatment. Both allopathy and preventive measures work well here.

Another myth is that deworming tablets should cause loose motion, which is not true. It’s important that everyone in the household takes the tablets.

Neem extract or bitter foods can kill some types of worms but not all or their eggs.

An Ayurvedic paediatrician advised starting with allopathy, then after age seven, using castor oil every 4 to 6 months to clean the stomach.

In summary, start with allopathy for the first few times. Maintain hand and nail hygiene. After age seven, use castor oil and other natural methods every four months for colon cleansing. HLP advocates a holistic, integrated approach for healthy living. Our ancestors recommended cleansing the colon every four months, which has many benefits, including deworming.
