Here are some Ayurvedic recommendations on when to cut (shave/trim) nails and hair:


Cutting Nails and Hair

Days of the Week:

  • Monday: Not allowed for family men.

  • Tuesday: Not allowed.

  • Wednesday: Allowed.

  • Thursday: Not allowed for family men.

  • Friday: Allowed.

  • Saturday: Not allowed.

  • Sunday: Not allowed.

Frequency:

  • According to Ayurveda, one should cut hair, nails, and shave thrice in fifteen days.


Lunar Phases:

  • Avoid on: Prathamai, Chaturthi, Sashti, Ashtami, Navami, Ekadashi, Dwadasi, Chaturdasi, Pournami (Full Moon), Amavasya (New Moon).

  • Recommended on: Dwithiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Sapthami, Trayodasi.


Nakshatras (Stars):

  • Avoid on: One's birth star, Chandraashtamam days, Bharani, Kaarthigai, Tiruvaadirai, Axilyam, Magam, Pooram, Visagam, Anusham, Kettai, Moolam, Pooradam, Poorattathi.

  • Best on: Hastham, Aswini, Uthiradam, Revathi, Avittam, Poosam, Punarpoosam, Mrigaseersham, Chittarai.

  • 2nd Best on: Swathi, Sathayam, Rohini, Uthram, Uthradam, Uthirattathi.


Daily Timing:

  • Avoid Evening and Night: The period after sunset is considered a time of rest and winding down, and grooming during this time can disrupt the body's natural rhythms.
